Leading broadsheets recently reported the House of Lords has relaxed it’s dress code, to permit their Lordships to attend without wearing a tie.

Speaker Lord Forsyth of Drumlean, responded immediately, pointing out that there has always been an expectation that members would dress “in accordance with the dignity of the House, which means a business suit with a tie for most members and the equivalent for ladies.”

In 2018, recognising that business dress in the UK had become much more informal, Lentune Probus members voted to make the wearing of ties at Club events voluntary. It was thought this would make club meetings more relaxed and creative, while boosting the recruitment of new members. It worked, and informal dress now prevails.
