Today’s drop-in venue was the Angel & Blue Pig (formerly the George Inn), a charming, 13th Century traditional pub and hotel, located centrally in Lymington's High Street.
Originally a coaching inn the Angel & Blue Pig has played a varied role in the town’s history, as a base for smuggling, as the town assembly rooms and as its first cinema.
It is also renowned as one of Britain’s most haunted hotels, with multiple sightings reported by guests. The ghosts include a coach driver often seen in the kitchen area, a ghost in naval uniform in the pub area and the ghost of a blond female on the second floor. Other spooky happening include piano playing – curious as there is no piano in the building!
Tastefully renovated recently by owners Marsten Inns, the hotel has a total of12 comfortable en-suite rooms, with a mix of singles and doubles, plus a family room and a four-poster double room.
Five Club members attended, and we had an enjoyable chat accompanied by some excellent beer and snacks, on what was a wonderfully sunny day..
