Lentune Ladies were privileged to have Milford resident Bronwyn (Bron) Burrell as our speaker on 6th March.

Bron made her name as a glamorous lady rally driver in the 60s and in1970 she and two friends competed in the London to Mexico World Rally in her Austin Maxi ‘Puff the Magic Wagon’. This involved driving 4600 miles in Europe followed by 11,500 miles in South America.

Sadly, Puff didn’t complete the rally and having survived jungles, deserts, and mountains, gave up the ghost in Argentina.

Bron ceased rallying two years later following the death of her mother, and became an interior landscaper, eventually setting-up her own business.

Her love of rallying was revived in 2013 when one of her original rally partners tracked-down Puff. And after restoring the car they began competing again. Both are now in their 80s.

Bron’s infectious love of speed and her success in what is still largely a man’s world, held members spellbound. She still aims to make it to Mexico City in Puff, the destination that eluded her in 1970.

We wish her every success.
