Did you know that one of the three largest fruit farms in the UK is located in Church Lane, East Boldre?

The New Forest Fruit Company, which employs up to 500 staff at busy times, is a business specialising in growing strawberries, asparagus and other soft fruit. They grow, harvest, pack and distribute fruit to supermarkets such as Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Lidl, throughout the UK. And at high season, the Company picks 30 tons of strawberries per day!

Modern growing systems and a range of fruit varieties give a long picking season, extending from March to November. And the crops, grown under glass or in polytunnels, are picked at shoulder height. Watering is computer controlled.

There is ample parking at the Farm. Our club visit will commence at 4.30pm and last up to 2 hours. The maximum number of people who can be accomodated is 30, so booking will be on a "first come, first served" basis.

There will be some walking and appropriate footware will be necessary, especially if it is raining.

There is no charge for the visit.

Following the visit, it is proposed that Club members enjoy a bar snack in the nearby Turfcutters Arms.
