Lentune Probus Club was treated to a superb demonstration of the varieties and capabilities of woodwind instruments by former Royal Marines musician and instrumental teacher Simon Morgan at our lunchtime meeting on July 14th.

Simon opened his talk by playing a beautiful melody on the alto saxaphone an instrument invented in1840, some time after many of the  great classical composers had orchestrated their most revered pieces and hence not included in their works. However it soon became clear that the sax can be used to play music written long before its invention.

He went on to show us the range of the Clarinet, a huge Bass Clarinet almost 4 feet long, the Suprano Saxophone with its light and breezy tone and finally the flute with a lovely rendition of Greensleeves.

It was a fascinating hour enlivend by Simon's  humour and exceptional musical ability, Followed as usual by a convivial and tasty lunch.
