Monthly Meeting

We shall be hosting the Men's Club at today's meeting, when our speaker will be Steve Roberts.

Steve is a freelance writer, tutor and accomplished public speaker based in Christchurch.  He honed his craft firstly as a teacher, then in his capacity as an IT Project Manager. He qualified as an ACII and is a Chartered Insurer.

Steve wanted to be a writer for many years but never had enough time to devote to it. He got the opportunity to write full time when he took early retirement from his day job in the summer of 2012.

Being a history graduate and former history teacher, he inevitably writes about historical subjects. His writing enables him to research any number of subjects, which he turns into a variety of talks.

Steve is sure that anyone who witnessed his presentations at the monthly team meetings in 'The Office' would vouch for the fact that his talks are going to be lively and fun!

Today's talk is about the fascinating story of Harry Selfridge, US retail entrepreneur and founder of the Oxford Street store.  It's a rags to riches and back to rags tale.

We shall take a look at the TV drama series "Mr Selfridge" and an assess what it got right and what it got wrong.
