Monday 13th January

Monthly Meeting

South Lawn Hotel, Lymington Road, Milford on Sea, SO41 0RF

Our speaker Bill Coombes is a radio amateur enthusiast and a technician in the Science Department at Harewood College, Bournemouth. He is also an outreach officer for the North American Space Agency (NASA).

Bill's subject on this occasion is Ashley Range, the New Forest Bombing Range, 5 miles northwest of Lyndhurst.

Ashley Range is a former World War 11 bombing range, built at a cost of £250,000, primarily to develop an effective air-raid shelter.

Once complete, the range was also used to test the Barnes Wallis grand slam bomb.

Bill will explain how the site was developed, used and, finally, returned as far as possible to its pre-war natural state.
