Our speaker today is Derek Fones.

Derek gained an Honours Degree in Electronic Engineering at Nottingham University, then pursued a career in high tech manufacturing with GEC, Mullard, Smiths Industries, Gross Cash Registers and Racal Electronics. He retired in 1992, when Deputy MD of Racal's Data Communications Group.  

Derek has lived in the Bournemouth/Poole area since 1953. A fellow Probian, he is a Past President of the Probus Club of Bournemouth & District. His interests include visiting historic houses and supporting local charities such as the Dorset Wildlife Trust, CPRE, RSPB and the Woodland Trust.

His talk today will explore the origins of words and sayings we use in our daily lives.
